Condolence Message: Demise of Prof. Rev. Dr. Gnana Robinson It was with great sadness that the Missions Academy at the University of Hamburg has learned the passing away of Prof. Rev. Dr. Gnana Robinson (B.Sc., B.D., M.Th., S.T.M., Dr. Theol.), an Alumnus of the Missions Academy from 1971-1975.

Dr. Gnana Robinson (born 17.03.1935) hails from the Kanyakumari District of Tamilnadu, India and was an ordained priest of the Church of South India. He has served for more than forty years as professor of Old Testament in several theological institutions in India and in oversees. With his administrative capacities he has also served as the principal of two esteemed theological institutions in India namely, Tamilnadu Theological Seminary (1978-1987) and United Theological College (1993-2000).

He did his Bachelor’s (B.D.) and Master’s (M.Th.-OT) degrees at UTC, Bangalore (1957-1963). Later, he pursued his Master of Sacred Theology (STM) degree from the UTS, New York (1964). From 1971-1975, with the scholarship of the Missions Academy, he did his doctoral studies (Dr. Theol.) at the University of Hamburg with the guidance of Prof. Dr. Klaus Koch. Apart from his successful carrier of being a professor and principal he has also twice served as the president of the Senate of Serampore College/University, India.

Moreover, he served as visiting professor in various universities both in India and in abroad as well. He was committed towards the upliftment of the poor and needy and therefore, he established few non-organizations to materialize his mission for the marginalized. In addition to his credit, he has also authored several books in Tamil, English and German.
His demise is a great loss to the Indian church and to the theological world and moreover, to the global church. As Missions Academy family, we place our heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.
